Why its so Easy to Overeat

Ever wonder why you sometimes go into a trance and binge eat? It’s alarmingly easy to overeat when you’re hungry for two reasons.

First, one of man’s major technological advances is our ability to create delicious, calorie dense foods. A bag of chips, soda, pastries, and candy can be consumed rapidly leading to a caloric intake over a short time that was not possible many years ago. Thousands of calories can be consumed in minutes!

The second reason makes the first one even worse! The feedback loop that your body uses to tell your brain that you are full and should stop eating is hormonal.¬† This means that it can take 20 to 30 minutes to kick in. This is too late if you’re eating fast and choosing calorie-dense processed foods.

If you don’t manage your hunger, you’re in danger of overeating 3 to 5 times a day! Those calories can add up fast!¬†

To combat this:

  1. Slow down and savor your meals, eat with friends and family
  2. Choose whole, unprocessed foods.
  3. Listen to your body’s hunger cues and eat before you get too hungry.
  4. Prepare meals and snacks in advance
  5. Eat at regular intervals to avoid getting too hungry

Mindful eating is your key to a healthier lifestyle!
